Since the founding of MMC in 1999, we have performed more than 30,000 second opinion consults via telemedicine for very sick children. We have learned, from first-hand experience, that 31% of the consults result in a change of diagnosis, and in over 90% of the consults there is a change in the treatment protocol. In the United States, depending on the disease, the incident of misdiagnosis is estimated at 5% to 15%. That does not include changes to the treatment protocol.
I am very pleased that the capabilities, technical and medical infrastructure of MMC has been used to build a strong foundation for Pangaea Healthcare Solutions, and that part of the revenue generated by Pangaea will be donated to MMC to help additional children. I am confident that second opinions generated by Pangaea Healthcare Solutions will provide the knowledge needed to create correct and hopefully positive outcomes.
